Hi everyone I have just bought off Ebay a Universal PTR 62B
in black and gold boxed and mint.It works well, can anyone tell me any history on this model IE. when they were first manufactured and also how many differant models did Universal make.I would also like to find out any information on early sixties Perdio pocket radios as they seem to be very hard to get hold of.I have just managed to get hold of a model Perdio Mini 66 which was my first radio I owned as a boy. I am farely new as a collector so I need all the information I can get as to what radios to go for.Cheers Trannybrian

That 62B came in differnt colors i have seen white , black and blue . They also made an 8 transistor version with a flat metal grille with a big 8 logo .
I think most all of them came with a power supply the size of a 9 volt battery which resulted in many of them getting a hole cut into the case for the cord to exit .

I have seen several different ``like`` this 2 knob on top radio .
They put the Candle name on a few and made some 2 transistor models with a slightly different case style
The 62B is a super great looking radio and one of very few with the wavey grille . These are also the most common model .. i dont know why they made so many of these and so many show up in the original box . They may have been a ``give away`` radio for some company ??

The Perdio company is known as the first British manufacturer of a genuinely pocket transistor radio - the model PR1 in 1957. The manufacturer's name is an abbreviation of "Personal Radio", and the company was set up in 1956 in London, England. It went into receivership in less than ten years in 1964.

Perdio assembled its own loudspeakers for the PR1 as it could not obtain a loudspeaker sufficiently small in size. Apparently, the adhesive for the speakers was cured in an old domestic oven.

The model PR33 (aka Mini-66) was a re-styled version of the PR24 (aka Mini-6) and was marketed from January 1962 at £13.2s.6d in UK.

Hi Darren,

The Mini 77 is the popular name for a radio marketed in UK by Perdio Limited, based in London, having the type number of PR-43. It retailed for just under £10 sterling in May 1963 (recommended price: £9-19s-6d). There was apparently also a deluxe version that retailed for £10-10s-0d.

Hope this helps.

Richard.
